SPECIAL NEEDS TRUSTS
(a.k.a. Supplemental Needs Trusts)
Our firm often advises clients who have children or loved ones who are physically or mentally disabled and who are currently receiving or who it is reasonable to believe in the future will receive, State or Federal benefits either through Medicaid (a.k.a. Title XIX), DMR, or other similarly funded programs. Special Needs Trusts are frequently used to receive an inheritance on behalf of the disabled person which if structured properly can provide additional quality of life benefits to the physically or the mentally disabled individual without disrupting the governmental benefits they are then receiving.
